Second year in Kindergarten! Room in 2018-19 School year

This year was all about purposeful play. Our district put out a manual for designing centers to engage the kids. I put a lot of money into supplies this year for play in each center. I didn't really have a theme this year other than bright colors and purposeful play.
I changed rooms to a room with windows! I didn't get enough photos but these were at the beginning of the year.
Space was a huge issue so I tried to make the best of what I had. I used the closet doors to make a word wall!

I fell in love with the Kindergarten Smorgasboard and snagged a few ideas for the year from his website! One was the ball pit! This had sight words, numbers and letters on the balls. Each had a recording sheet.

The dramatic play center was basic but I made ten prop boxes to change it out through the year. The next photo shows how the cabinet works with the dramatic play area!

The first roll out for dramatic play was a farmers market! We read books about it and then they had so much fun shopping the market and paying at the register! By far this was one of the favorites! The top favorite was the Bakery! We also had a doctors office!

Please forgive the circle. That basket was supposed to be on the floor!

Each area had a book box with relevant books to go with the center. This was the Blocks and Construction center area! Each area also had sticky notes and pencils!

This was an extension of the construction with Legos! Lego books and castle books provided!

This area was the social studies area. It included the map on the wall and the bookshelf behind it with more materials like atlas's, binoculars, books, globes, puzzles, pirate scopes and more!

This was the writing center with tons of materials for writing, stamping, making playdough  letters etc. One of the prize ideas for this center was the test tube sight words! I got this from Smorgasboard! I had all the sight word list and all number and color words and I added dolch sight words too! The recording sheet was test tubes!

The science center was a personal favorite! We had bugs in resin, magnifying glasses, all kind of gems, rocks and minerals, each with their own book! Books about animals, national geographics for kids, rubrics cubes and even some stuffed jungle animals!

More of the social studies center. This photo is out of place! ooops!

Art center. Keeping this clean was a chore. I learned a lot about what not to do! The kids LOVED this center! Plenty of paper and various materials.

Pardon the guest who helped me put this room together! This is one shot of the reading center and classroom library!

This was the back side of the construction center! Tons of materials here! Polydrons, unifix cubes, magnetic building materials, shapes and more!

The bookcase on the left is the math center. Math games, tiles, puzzles, 3-D shapes, and plenty of books and sorting materials.

This is another view of the classroom library/reading center and my wonderful tree!

I tried to get a panoramic of the entire room but it doesn't do the room justice!

Next year I am changing schools and I am excited to plan for a new room. I have redesigned my tree and I am excited to share that! I am going to have two trees and a much bigger room! The room was moved around some through this year but I don't have photos of the changes.  Now we have the corona virus pandemic so the year got cancelled two months before school was out. :( That leaves me plenty of time to plan for next year! See you in 2020-21!

More Stuff for My Room!!

I feel like I am running blind since I haven't seen my new room for the fall, but I have to collect things over time so I can hit the sales and stretch my budget for my room! My mom and I went shopping, hobby lobby had the usual 50% off certain sections so it was a great opportunity to get some cute storage at a steal. Trying to figure out what to get was driving me nuts because again, I have no idea what kind of storage or space I am going to have to put things. I decided to buy them anyway, and if I need to return or exchange later I can. This week ribbon, home decor/metals among other things were on sale, check out what I got so far.

These baskets were half off!!!! $5 each! It doesn't get better than that! I am thinking these will be used for my ten literacy centers I am using that I found on another teacher blog! But I am undecided, so please suggest something if you have ideas! I feel like this is my first year all over again.

You knew I couldn't resist! $5 again at hobby lobby! I am going to hang this by the door for restroom/office/etc. passes!

This was a center idea for spelling. They also had their stamps on sale and the ink pads 40% off, so each on of these was about $6! Great for the kids to stamp out spelling words, sentences, or to use in any literacy activity.

More center storage, my thought is this is for math manipulatives for math centers. I got these on sale, 50% off they were only $1.80 each!
